Arrival Experience

Landing in Port Vila once again, I found the 15-minute transfer to Le Lagon a breeze—staff were warm and attentive from my first step into the airy, open-plan lobby. A tropical welcome drink set the tone, and early-arrival check-in was handled with real flexibility: ideal for families coming off long-haul flights.

Lobby & Décor

Le Lagon’s entrance greets with open sides, ceiling fans, and a parade of island crafts. Views across the lush gardens immediately frame the blue of Erakor Lagoon—inviting and relaxed. Décor is simple, clean, and unmistakably south pacific resort vibes: think timber accents, natural textures, and bright local artwork.

The resort itself has gone through a number of iterations and rebuilds following the occasional hurricane – I recall the devastation from Uma back in the late 1980’s and the more recent earthquake in 2024. Fortunately, the ni Vanuatu are resilient people and the resort today still welcomes with a professional standard that remains as popular as ever.

My Room: Lagoon View

I stayed in a Lagoon View Room—about 34m², generous by island standards—with a patio just steps from the water’s edge. Bedding was flexible (queen plus singles) and the blackout blinds ensured deep, uninterrupted sleep. The bathroom was modern, spotless, and practical, and I appreciated the daybed for afternoon reading.

In-room touches included air-conditioning, a mini-fridge, satellite TV, safe, tea/coffee tray and ample storage. The gentle slap of waves made it easy to unwind.

Le Lagon has always been about genuine, laid-back hospitality—expect cheerful smiles, slower “island time” at the bars (worth it for the cocktails!), and staff who truly try to help with everything from birthday cakes to kayak lessons. The vibe is vibrant but not rowdy—even with the pools busier during Aussie school holidays, the lush grounds mean you can always find a peaceful nook.
